Even with a regular maintenance regime in place, over time surfaces will require replacement. The tarmacadam on hard court areas begins to break down and the surface stones start to pluck out (fretting). These loose stones create a slippery surface which can be a health and safety issue. These areas can be resurfaced with a new layer of macadam and then colour coated.
On artificial grass areas the fibres become very worn and the seams/cut-in lines become detached. If installed, the rubber shock pad may also become brittle and begin to break down. When these issues occur and player’s safety is compromised, then surface/pad replacement will be required.
Sports Surface Maintenance can give professional advice on your surface and recommendations regarding it’s renewal.
