Athletics Track Maintenance

athletics-page Artificial athletics track areas may include a 400 metre track, javelin run-up plus long jump and triple jump run-ups.

These surfaces are constructed using porous or non-porous systems. The most common type is the porous system, which has a base mat of polyurethane-bound rubber granules with EPDM granules spray applied as the finishing layer. The solid PU system incorporates rubber granules in two-part polyurethane resin.

Both artificial athletics track surfaces require continual maintenance programmes to ensure the surface is clean and safe. Leaves, pine needles and other detritus should be swept or vacuum collected to ensure they do not migrate into the surface.

The surfaces should be chemically treated to remove weeds, moss and algae at regular intervals.
